The reputed Chinese cryptocurrency founder and blockchain expert Justin Sun tweets announcing that he had won the annual charity auction for a lunch with Warren Buffett.
Warren Buffett, a renowned American businessman, is all set to talk about blockchain and crypto in this year’s charity steak lunch. The news was confirmed in a press release shared with Cointelegraph on June 3rd. Justin Sun is reported to have won the auction with a whopping difference of 4 million, as per the press release.
Sun had purportedly bid a fancy amount of $4,567,888 for the auction. This had been held by Warren Buffet for the past 20 years. Also, the number ‘8’ is supposed to signify good luck in China, where Sun is from. This charity auction was exclusively hosted on eBay, with final bids due on May 31st.
The luncheon, which is presented by eBay and the GLIDE Foundation, will be held at the famous steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky in New York. Until last year, all the proceeds from the auction were donated to the GLIDE Foundation, one of the hosts for the lunch.
It is a San Francisco charity group which provides local services to the homeless and those from the ethnic minorities or the LGBTQ community. Sun emphasizes that more than the lunch, bidding on this charity auction was a key priority for their team and that he’s proud to have his bid donated to GLIDE and offer his support to the local homeless community. This eBay for charity Initiative has reported having raised almost $912 million for nonprofits via the e-commerce community until now.
A lot of crypto-experts and enthusiasts believe that this luncheon will recollect Warren’s much controversial negative opinion about decentralised cryptocurrency and Bitcoins.
Sun has also told Bloomberg he hopes to shift the investor’s views on this, as he says it is ‘very common for people in investment circles to change their mind’. Sun plans to invite several leaders in cryptocurrency to join him in his lunch with Buffet, one among whom was Changpeng Zhao.
Zhao had recently tweeted saying he won’t be able to make it to the lunch and had recommended a team of experts to join Sun in hopes to convince Buffet about Bitcoin’s potential future.
